Even though reports are now coming out that it will end in the USA, much of the press is still reporting it will end in Australia. There was a report as recent as this weekend that stated Australia was the last show. Most people don't scour every news item, but trust the press to release up to date information. How many times has Clear Channel itself had out of date info concerning this tour? Quite a few. Susan

From The Daytona Beach News Journal Cher Adieu, Part II
By RICK de YAMPERT Entertainment Writer
Last update: September 17, 2004 Cher -- the singer so nice, she decided to say farewell to Daytona Beach twice.
A mere 11 months and two days after bringing her "Living Proof -- The Farewell Tour" to the Ocean Center, the 58-year-old diva will return to the venue on Wednesday for her "Farewell Tour 2004."
Evidently this time Her Cher-ness means it. Her Daytona show will be followed by only three more Florida dates, then several international gigs before she brings down the curtain March 11 in Brisbane, Australia.
"My Australian shows will be very emotional because that's where it will end," Cher swore in a statement issued earlier this month, as reported on the Web site Livedaily.com. "I think the reason I've kept going, and agreed to more dates, is because it will be really sad to finally say goodbye."
Indeed. As noted by Livedaily.com, the farewell tour opened in June 2002 and was slated to play about 50 North American cities. That jaunt soon expanded to more than 250 shows, as the diva took her traveling circus/human menagerie/fashion show/wig gallery to Bismarck and Biloxi, San Jose and Green Bay, and many points in between -- including an Oct. 20, 2003, date at the Ocean Center.
Has Cher re-tooled, or even tweaked, her farewell extravaganza in the 11 months since her last visit here? That's the million-dollar, and unanswered, question.
At Cher's previous Daytona gig, some 9,000 fans witnessed a costume-changing frenzy by a sass-talking diva who variously resembled a mutant from Broadway's "Cats," a princess from the Far East, an ice lioness queen, a hippie chick, a biker gal clad in a black leather thong, and an Aztec goddess crossbred with a freaky chicken (as near as anyone could tell).
Her Cher-ness even joked that she "looked like some ridiculous drag queen."
Oh, yes, there was music, too. Backed by a seven-piece band and six dancers, Cher performed her recent disco-y comeback hits: "Song for the Lonely," "All or Nothing" and "Believe." The latter song went to No. 1 in 1999 -- the first chart-topping hit she had scored since her 1974 hit, " Dark Lady."
And Cher presented tender videos of her days with husband Sonny Bono from the 1960s, and she sang her 1960s/'70s solo hits: "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves," "Half Breed," " Dark Lady" and a heavy metal version of "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)."
Will the song remain the same at the Ocean Center Wednesday night? Is this really almost the end? Only Her Cher-ness knows for sure.

This is just a guess, but that number relies very heavily on the riggings for the flying of the dancers and it might have needed to be cut because the rigging system of the Venue might have not passed the qualifications to hang all the apparatus the dancers use and THEN swing from it with the force they do. I know the apparatus is used a lot during the show, but "Bang, Bang" looks like it really puts it to the test. Or it could even be that there is a part of show's rigging that needs a part and the part didn't arrive in time for the Winston/Salem show. Again, these are just what would be a logical possibility. I guess we will know more if it stays out for more than another show or two. I hope it is still in the show, It is one of my favorite numbers. Susan:)

From JournalNow.com Coming Home: Bass player for Cher is Winston-Salem native By Ed Bumgardner JOURNAL ARTS REPORTER Tuesday, September 14, 2004
Take a hard gander at Cher's bassist when her Farewell Tour stops Wednesday night at Joel Coliseum.
This bass player won't be hard to miss. Flamboyance and audience interaction are major ingredients in Bill "Rubber Hand Man" Sharpe's resume as a bassist-for-hire.
"Bill is one of two band members who join me and my dancers," Cher said, relaxing in Chattanooga. "He is the consummate performer. Audiences love him. He always has a big smile on his face. He has fun, and that spreads. That he is also an amazing musician is a bonus."
If Bill Sharpe looks a bit like Hobert Sharpe, a Winston-Salem native and a graduate of North Forsyth High School and Winston-Salem State University, there is good reason for that.
Bill Sharpe and Hobert Sharpe are one and the same.
"If you met Cher and asked her if she knew Hobert Sharpe, she wouldn't know who you are talking about," said Sharpe, talking by cell phone from a tour stop in Springfield, Ill. "She only knows me as Bill."
Cher burst out laughing when told that Sharpe's real name was Hobert. "Get out of here. Really? No way," she said. "Hobert? I'm going to have some fun with that."
Leaving Winston-Salem in 1974, Sharpe has toured and recorded with soul singer Jeffrey Osborne, singer Brenda Russell and smooth-jazz saxophonist Dave Koz. It was Koz who nicknamed Sharpe "Rubber Hand Man," because of Sharpe's distinctive approach to playing slap-and-pop funk bass.
His connections with Osborne led him to Cher. He signed on for Cher's three-month farewell tour. That was two and a half years ago. She's still saying bye-bye.
"I knew who Cher was, but to be honest, I wasn't that familiar with her music," Sharpe said. "But when she came in to rehearse with us that first time, she knocked me out. I was really surprised at how many hits she has. It was like, 'Oh, I know this song, and that song, and, man, that song is Cher?' She has it going on - and that woman can sing.
"People love her. They love the costumes. They love her personality. A lot of them dress like her - and that's just the guys."
Sharpe said his path to one of Cher's 10 tour buses began in elementary school, where he learned to play the trombone. A sixth-grade teacher, Fred Tanner, introduced him to the bass, and he fell in love. By the time he was in eighth grade, his music teacher, Bernard Foy, was letting him take home an upright bass each night so he could practice.
"I was all over that thing," Sharpe said. "I was going to be a jazz player. Then I heard the new breed of electric-bass players, like Larry Graham and Bootsy Collins. Man, I was home."
In the 1970s, Sharpe and some friends formed The Blenders, one of the top funk and soul bands in Winston-Salem. The band took its look from Parliament/Funkadelic - wearing makeup, outlandish costumes and wigs. The band wrote and released two singles while in Winston-Salem, one of which, "Ain't Nothing But A Party," became a regional hit.
Sharpe and the band's rhythm section formed a new band, Hell & High Water, with the intention of moving to Los Angeles. The show band toured the United States, Canada and Japan, but never made it to Los Angeles. "The closest we got was Las Vegas," Sharpe said. "I was the only one who made it to Los Angeles. I managed to get introduced to all the right people, one thing led to another, and I started working with some pretty prestigious people."
Sharpe said he still isn't exactly sure when the Cher tour will end, but he isn't worried about what the future holds. He has a Web site (www.rubberhandman.com) and is finishing a solo album. For the time being, he is content to enjoy his time with Cher.
"She treats us great," he said. "She takes us to dinners and movies, which helps us feel like a part of her life. She is a good spirit. And there are definite perks."
Such as?
"Well, she still does that number where she wears a fish-net costume that leaves her, um, posterior exposed," he said, laughing. "At this point, I know those tattoos pretty well.
"But you get used to it - not that I'm about to complain."

Cher's Hello Tour Cher to make her first visit to Winston-Salem in 'farewell' show By Ed Bumgardner JOURNAL ARTS REPORTER Tuesday, September 14, 2004 Cher's original idea for her Farewell Tour - her toodle-oo to touring, not her retirement from show business - was to perform 59 shows. The tour - "the blur" or the "Never Can Say Goodbye Tour," as Cher called it - is now in its seventh leg. The demand for tickets remains high, and nobody is more shocked at its success than Cher. When she started this tour, she was adamant - and still is adamant - that this show will close her Atlas on touring. Her plan: Hit the big cities where she has always done big business. Visit a few places around the United States in which she has never performed - places such as Winston-Salem, where she will appear Wednesday night at Joel Coliseum. Then she plans to wrap it up with a few shows in Mexico, Europe and Australia. "Fifty-nine shows seemed like plenty," Cher said, talking from a hotel room in Chattanooga where she was to perform last night. "To be honest, that's a lot. It's not a short tour, particularly when you are doing a show the size that we are doing. We have people flying, dancing, walking on stilts and doing stunts throughout the show. It's a feast for the senses. "This is less a concert than a night at the circus - you decide who the clowns are, but choose carefully." She laughed - a disorientingly familiar sound to anyone who grew up watching Cher and her glittering array of provocative Bob Mackie-designed gowns and costumes on such TV variety shows as The Sonny & Show Comedy Hour (1971), Cher (1975) and The Sonny and Cher Show (1976). Forget Madonna; Cher is the Grand Dame of exposed navels and monosyllabic celebrity monikers. Fuel for Cher's cult of personality includes TV specials, dolls, biographies, special appearances on talks show and TV series, fitness videos, infomercials, concert videos, awards shows and a small mountain of CD and album jackets that bear her familiar countenance. In the 1960s, she sang background vocals on various Phil Spector productions and recorded such hit singles as "The Beat Goes On" and the classic "I Got You Babe" with the late Sonny Bono, then her husband. On her own, Cher has released 22 albums, excluding compilations. She has racked up 18 Top 40 singles, including four No. 1 songs: "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves," "Dark Lady," "Believe" and "Half Breed." She has made 18 feature films, gaining critical acclaim for her work in Silkwood, Mask and Moonstruck, for which she won the Oscar for best actress in 1987. Forty years of fame and celebrity are, as she said, "several lifetimes and several careers. No wonder I am tired." Cher is a savvy showbiz veteran who knows the rules of the game, which rules she can break and when it's time to walk away. That is why, after nearly 21/2 years, after 59 shows turned into hundreds, Cher is ready to get off the road. She will head to Australia in the near future, then wrap things up with a single extravaganza in the United States.
"For better or worse, I never plan my life," she said. "I focus on today. I love spontaneity. That is what has put me in some strange and wonderful places in my life. What's the challenge in doing the same thing over and over again? "This is it. I promise. I'm not going to be like Frank Sinatra and keep retiring from the road, then keep coming back. Enough is enough. I'm serious. At some point, things are as good as it gets - and this show is at that point." Cher has plans for when the tour grinds to a halt. She is scheduled to record a new album. And she has been approached about doing a rock version of the opera La Traviata. She said she will not miss the tabloids - "I don't read magazines; I don't like disposable culture" - but she said she will miss seeing the different people who come to her shows. "People have a need to be entertained. They want to be swept away from the everyday. And it's not just adults. We see an amazing amount of kids. "The other night, I saw this little girl. She was about 7 or 8. She was wearing this little pink outfit, dancing up and down the aisles. She was doing her own thing. She didn't care what anybody else thought. She was having a great time in her own world." She paused, then laughed. "And you know, she reminded me of someone..."
