I just want to thank Jan for once again being the ultimate New York City tour guide today - I hope you had as much fun today as I did!
Jan and I had been talking all winter about how we lived so close to each other with NYC being in the middle of us that we should just take our respective bus/train and meet for lunch one day. Well, that day was today!
Once we met up in the city, our first stop on our walking tour (with a few "side" trips through Rockerfeller Center, Central Park, Bryant Park, and the Broadway area), of course, was Serendipity. There was a short line when we got there, but it wasn't open yet, and lo and behold, after we got on line, the doors opened. One of the coolest parts of this was that we were seated upstairs, next to Cher's favorite table - and since no one was sitting there yet, we just had to lean over and touch the table. I say "had to" because the day after the NJ concert three weeks ago, Jan & I had tentative plans to go there for lunch but decided not to.....and guess who was there? We'll beat each other up over this for the next 50 years, right Jan? While we were walking to the restaurant, I also got to talk w/Di for a few minutes when I wasn't busy dodging cars, taxis and trucks as we crossed the streets. Di - IT WAS GREAT TO FINALLY GET TO TALK WITH YOU!!! And I agree, Cher Connection people are the absolute best!
Yvette & Sherri - it was good to talk with you both again while we were inside, and I'm sorry for being a little distracted while we were talking, but I was also trying to decide what to eat! Yvette - you'll be happy to know I did order the young chicken w/Irish soda bread (Jan told me Cher orders that every time she goes there). It was delicious! And BIG!!!! I brought home a nice-sized container of leftovers that I'll have tomorrow (it's nearly 9 p.m. now, and I'm still stuffed from lunch). Yvette, I did get Jan to eat some of my chicken, but she wouldn't touch the veggies! Of course, the meal wouldn't be complete without a Frrozen Hot Chocolate - I'd had one of these once before, but Jan cracked up at the face I made when I took that first bite - sheer heaven! And BIG!!!!!
Thanks, Jan for the goodies you brought back for me from LA, for sharing your pictures of the trip with me, and for being such great company. Like I said in another post, the pictures almost made me cry (again!), but that didn't happen. And here's another big hug to you for treating me to lunch - it was a great surprise, especially because I wanted to buy you a birthday lunch!
After all that food, we waddled (and I mean WADDLED) out the door and down the street (but not before "visiting" Cher's table one more time!) and it was off to The Village for Debbie's "Cher Shopping." I picked up some Cher posters and a number of Cher LPs to go along with the Serendipity tee shirt I had to have. We started calling my bag of goodies Debbie's 'I didn't get to the Hollywood Bowl but I got a bunch of cool Cher stuff' consolation bag! Jan - you're a dangerous person to go shopping with. Fun, but dangerous!! After a visit to the South Street Seaport, we boarded the subway to head back up to the bus/train stations to say good-bye and head home.
Hopefully (soon) more of us will be able to get together for a weekend of mayhem in New York. I can personally vouch that Jan won't lose any of you, and she will find a way to get everyone to all the sights they want to see and everything they want to do.
Probably the least important thing for all of you (but pretty important for me), is that I got in and out of the city solo this time - I've never tried that before! Now that I know it's so easy, well, look out NYC!! ;D Now, if I can just learn to use the subways and trains......
Thanks again, Jan, I really enjoyed your company today!
