I'm really surprised there has been nothing on the news about the tour finale. I really thought there would have been a lot of coverage since it is the most sucessful tour ever by a female and probably close to most sucessful period. Dann, you are the "stat man". Where does this tour rank in terms of tour by anyone? I can't think of any tour that would be ranked higher when you take into account attendance, and duration. Susan

Susan: Sorry, I don't know how the tour ranks overall... the only thing I know is that it is the highest-grossing tour by a FEMALE artist... I'm not positive, but I think that Tina Turner had the record before Cher did... Overall, I would imagine that it probably ranks pretty high -- I would assume it's probably in the Top 10 if you count the concert grosses for the ENTIRE tour...
I just did a "google" search to see if I could find anything, and I did find something from four years ago that said that U2's 2001 "Elevation" tour was the 2nd highest-grossing North American tour of all time, and that The Rolling Stones' 1994 "Voodoo Lounge" tour was #1... The article said that the "Elevation" tour grossed $109.7 million in North America, and I know that Cher's tour has grossed way more than that overall... I then found a Rolling Stones website which had this information:
The Top 8 Grossing USA Concert Tours of All-Time: (single-year statistics, as of Dec. 2004)
1. The Rolling Stones (1994, 60 shows) $121,200,000. 2. Bruce Springsteen (2003, 47 shows) $115,900,000. 3. U2 (2001, 80 shows) $109,700,000. 4. Pink Floyd (1994, 59 shows) $103,500,000. 5. Paul McCartney (2002, 53 shows) $103,300,000. 6. The Rolling Stones (1989, 60 shows) $98,000,000 7. The Rolling Stones (1997, 33 shows) $89,300,000. 8. The Rolling Stones (2002, 34 shows) $87,900,000.
Highest Grossing Concert Tour Of All-Time:
The Rolling Stones (1994-1995) $320,000,000.
********************
And I was also surprised at the lack of coverage for the finale shows... I'm hoping that some of the entertainment news shows (ET, Access Hollywood, etc.) will have some coverage on their Monday shows.

I think mabey because a lot of people like the press think that Cher isn't serious about this last show. It seems like only her fans believe and everyone else thinks she goin to be back on the rode next weekend, so they didn't do much media coverage, its a possibility.

I know, but as soon as she linked this show to Sonny and her appearance there with him I thought. "THIS is the full circle moment. She means it this time." I think the final concert of the tour needed to be in a very meaningful spot. That was it. Susan

I too wonder about the lack of news....or hoopla.....hmmm........not even a Larry King interview,no mag articles. Cher's PR team could have created some coverage if they wanted too....so.....my guess is its the final show of the tour but its not Cher's last show.Which makes me happy....Hope Cher has a great vacation on the dude ranch or wherever shes headed.Well deserved.
also, were the australia concert grosses ever listed?

I looked for reviews most of this morning, and I'm disappointed there was nothing on the news, too.

MAGAZINES! You got that right! What about People? Three years of a sell out tour and no people cover or extensive article. And Larry King is right. Although I did see a post somewhere that said she would be on an upcoming Oprah. Although that Oprah was supposed to be in April according to the post. Susan

Yeah I wasn't psotivie about it being the last show until I heard it was at the Hollywood Bowl, then I knew it was really the end since it had such sentimental meaning.

Susan: This recent article from BillboardBiz includes some info about how the tour did overall... However, it doesn't say exactly where it ranks among all tours...
Cher Earns Top-Grossing Female Trek Ever by Ray Waddell
Cher's recently completed farewell tour is easily the top-grossing trek ever for a female artist, and one of the more successful concert treks of all time. The tour wrapped at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on April 29-30, with two sell-out nights grossing $2.8 million.
Over the course of 280 shows in North America, Cher played to 2,880,726 fans, and grossed $194,683,927. More impressively, she played to 92% of capacity and realized 90% of her gross potential on the road.
Brad Wavra, touring VP at Clear Channel Entertainment, promoted every North American show on the tour. "No other female artist has ever come close to what she did," he tells Billboard.biz. "Not Madonna, not Bette Midler, not Janet, not Whitney, not Tina, because she outworked them all."
With European concerts (promoted by Barrie Marshall) and Australian shows (promoted by Michael Coppell) included, Cher played a total of 325 dates, grossing well over $200 million.
Wavra is quick to point out that, despite its length, this was one complete tour. "She might have taken a month or two off physically, but she was always on sale," he says. "It was the same show, the same production, the same crew, everything."
