Hey all, had to 'cher' my Cher bargain find of the day with you! ;D I went into a local music store today and I was browsing through the used CD's section and when I got to the Cher CD's, I quickly skimmed through them, figuring that they were all ones that I already have, but when I got to the last CD, I noticed that it was one that I had never seen before so I picked it up and saw that it's the first version of the Heart of Stone CD (the one with the Stone Heart on the front with Cher sitting next to it)...I was excited because I had never seen one anywhere (except pictures online) and had always wanted to get my hands on one for my collection, so now I have it! :-) Yay! Lol...sorry for my annoying rambling, but I was pretty excited about finding a somehwhat rare Cher CD for 6 bucks. ...or atleast I think it's rare (does anyone know anything about why there is two different covers? I think I remember hearing that it's because Cher didn't like the first cover...) Julie

That's one I have been trying to find.. I saw some on ebay but I didn't want a used one.. They are really hard to come across especially new.. Good for you, that's cool you found it.. I just got a new concert tshirt on Ebay, it is for 2004 and I only paid 19.99, at the concert it would have been near 40.00.. So now I have a new shirt for NY.. ;D

Congrats on adding the "skull cover" of HEART OF STONE to your collection, Julie...
I always thought it was a really great FRONT cover, but I didn't really dig the back cover very much... it seems to me like there is a "larger version" of it, and they had to cut some of it off in order to get it to "fit" on the back cover, or something... if that makes any sense... but I love the front cover, and think that the artist made the perfect painting for a Cher album called HEART OF STONE, because that's exactly what it's a painting of -- Cher sitting next to a "heart of stone"... but then if you squint your eyes, it becomes something totally different...
I also think it's very cool that the HEART OF STONE "skull cover" on cassette has that thing on the side where you think you are seeing Cher's eye... but it's really bats!!
I never heard Cher explain why there were two different covers for HEART OF STONE... but, in 1991, she did say in an interview that she didn't like the original cover of LOVE HURTS, so I think that the second LOVE HURTS cover (with the red wig) was Cher's idea, but I don't know if that's the case for HEART OF STONE...

Thanks Lisa...I really like it when I can buy new CD's instead of used, too, but I couldn't pass up on this particular one because I have never ever seen them new anywhere and figured it was better than nothing. Plus, I already have the 2'nd HOS CD so it's not like I really bought this one for the CD...I just bought it to have the different cover. Hehe. That's awesome about the T-shirt you found on ebay! If Cher ever came back to Maine or even NH or Mass. I would definitley be looking on ebay for a new T-shirt to wear. I only have one (which I bought last summer at her show for $40..yes, I spent that much for a T-shirt!!) ...it's white with cher on the front wearing a blonde wig and purple thing around her neck and ofcourse the tour dates on the back, but after I got it I wished I had bought a darker color for some reason. Lol Dann....I don't really care for the back of the cover, either. I never did hear that about them having to cut some of it to make it fit, but I get what you mean...that's kind of weird, though. Hmm...I'll have to go get the cover and 'squint' to see what you are talking about... :-) I've never seen the cassette... as a matter of fact, I don't own any Cher cassettes. I wish I could come across some just to add to my collection...I know I have seen Believe on ebay...I doubt I could ever find any new cassettes so I'd probably settle for used...even though there is just something nice about having new Cher stuff. Lol. I guess I'm crazy like that. Oh, and was there 2 different cassete covers for HOS? Thanks for the info about the Love Hurts CD! I never knew there was two diffent covers, so that's good to know. I have the 2'nd version with the Red Wig (which I will admit I did buy used at a fair last year because I couldn't find it new at any of the stores around here, and I couldn't possibly wait to find one on ebay...:-) ) -Julie

Julie: No, the covers of the HEART OF STONE cassettes are the same two covers used for the CD (as well as for the vinyl LPs)... But, if you buy the HEART OF STONE cassette with the original cover, there is a really cool thing on the side... you know how on the side where it says the name of the artist and the title? Well, next to "Cher" and "HEART OF STONE" is a picture of bats that are arranged so that it actually looks like Cher's eye... it's hard to explain, but it's very cool, and it's only on the cassettes.... I actually found a couple of these cassettes not too long ago at WalMart -- they were on sale for $4.99 If you haven't already seen it, click on the link below to see a picture of the original cover of LOVE HURTS: images.amazon.com/images/P/B000000OZY.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpgI like the second LOVE HURTS ( "reg wig" ) cover better. There is also a limited-edition CD version of LOVE HURTS that came in a wooden box... inside the box is a set of tarrot cards, and on the back of one of the cards is one of my favorite pictures of Cher... It's a picture of Cher from the waist up, standing with her arms folded, and she has really long, curly, black hair... and the lighting in the photo is amazing!! That's the photo that should've been on the cover of LOVE HURTS, if you ask me... Congrats again on finding this bargain... Did you "squint" and figure it out yet?

Forgot to mention that I did get the promo poster of this HOS cover.. Got it from ebay for like 9.00 brand new.. I also have the LP promo poster as well.. They are like a cardboard.. I have been trying to get frames for these like forever now, can't find any.. They are 11X14 in size, hard to come by in a frame..

OK, you guys peaked my interest, so I just spent the last 15 minutes looking for my sister's HOS cassette. I've read about these things before but I never actually took the time to look at the sleeve.
The picture on the spine, to me, looks like an optical illusion-type thing. One second it looks like a drawing of part of Cher's face (forehead, small bit of hair, one eye, and a little cheekbone), and then when I look again, I do see four bats!
Oh yeah! Now I see the skull illusion, too! Well, there's my Cher trivia lesson for the day. Thanks everyone!

Dann, thanks for the info... I will keep my eye out for the HOS cassettes! I think that's so neat about the bats looking like Cher's eye...that's quite creative. Also thanks for the link to the first Love Hurts cover...I don't think it looks that bad, but see what you mean about your favorite being the second one...I really like the red wig, too. I did hear about the wooden box limited edition of LH but never saw it for sale anywhere. I think the Tarrot cards sound really cool. Lol...thanks...I did "squint" but I don't see anything different. How did you figure it out? Maybe I'm trying too hard and it'll just come to me when I'm not concentrating so much on it.... Lisa, congratulations on the posters...I do know what you mean about frames for that size being hard to find... it's so annoying. I want to get a Believe poster to frame and hang up.... it's funny, but I don't have any Cher posters! I have seen plenty online (like ebay and amazon) but sometimes people charge an arm and a leg for one, and as much as I love Cher, I have to wonder if it's really worth all that...know what I mean? But, I think I may browse around on ebay or something later and see what I can come up with and bid on some because they would brighten up my room a lot. ;D There's a print of a painting at one of the Malls here in Maine of Cher, and I really want to get it, so I may have to make a special trip down there and pick that up because one thing that I got for my bday from my parents was money and my mom said she figured I'd probably want to get that picture and I was fretting over the price beforehand (I have the money but I'm not a huge spender most of the time)... they sell them with or without the frame (it's a lot more with the frame, but I think I'll buy it that way because it would be too hard to find one elsewhere). So much so, Julie, I went and did it again. Thanks everybody! If you look at the spine (the little picture on the side of the cassette box), her eyebrow is a bat, as well the the crease above her eye. Her upper eyelid is also a bat, and there is a smaller one underneath (her lower eyelid). Definitely there (try not looking into her "eye" directly, start with the eyebrow bat (giggle, "eyebrow bat!"). Didja see the "skull" on the cover OK? Debbie P.S.: The cassette here is actually my sister's - she picked it up earlier this year in Tower for $3.99! And congrats on the shirt, too, Lisa! Can't wait to see it!

Debbie, thanks for the tips on seeing the "eyebrow bat"! I sure hope I find the cassette around here. I'll make a point of looking for it the next time I am downtown. Your sister sure lucked out, especially for $3.99!! Yes, I think I can see the 'skull', but I'm not positive. Lol..maybe there's something wrong with me. Is it on the heart....where the circle is with the two lines on the side? Gotta forgive me...I guess I am a brown-headed ditz. TTYL, Julie :-)

Julie: If you "squint," both Cher and the "heart of stone" together form the shape of a skull's head... Cher's waist are the teeth...

I remember when I first read about that cover, and how it looked like a skull if you squint. I tried, and tried, and tried, but I could never see the skull! I always thought it would be a skull facing the viewer, and kept looking on that friggin' heart-shaped stone. Then about a year ago, somebody told me that Cher's belt are the skull's teath, and that the skull is drawn in profile. And voilĂ , I could finally see it!

Thanks Dann & Erik...I finally figured it out, and it's so cool!! Instead of squinting, I actually found it easier to see by not looking so closely at it...my mom could see it from where she was sitting and told me to stand next to her, and I saw it instantly. Julie

Julie: If you click on the e-bay link below, you will see a picture of the wooden box limited-edition version of LOVE HURTS... the photo is blurry, but included in the picture is the tarrot card that has the photo that I was talking about in my prior message -- the one that I think should've been the cover photo... This photo was also made into a really large "promo" poster that is really, really nice... I don't have one yet, but hopefully one day it will be part of my collection. It's been on my "wish" list for a long time now because I just love that photo... Cher looks really great in a lot of the LOVE HURTS photo session pictures, but that one is just so beautiful.... Here's the link -- it is good until August 25th at 6:46 AM Pacific Time... cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=307&item=4031620140&rd=1

Thanks Dann! I don't use PayPal, so I am hoping that the seller will accept a money order...I just sent them an e-mail asking if they would or not. I love the picture on the tarrot card...and I have to agree that it should have been the one for the cover. It is just a really awesome picture of her...I think she looks beautiful with black hair because it is more natural and fits her well. Not that I don't like her numerous wigs and hairstyles lol, but my favorite look is somewhat like the one on the tarrot card.... I also really love seeing pictures of her from around the 80's/early 90's because that was the Cher that I came to know when I was little and I always loved her hair and leather outfits.... ofcourse TBT is a prime example of what I am talking about... ;D I hope you luck out one of these days and get that promo poster! I think when I'm older and have my own home I want one room just for Cher stuff... I think Cher's merchandise company should market a Cher wallpaper... I know I'd buy it in a heartbeat!! Julie

Lol...yeah it is a little freaky at first but now I think it's kinda cool. P.S.-Does anyone know if the Suspect DVD comes with a booklet or paper (like when you open the case up, there's usually a paper or something where the clips are)....I was just curious because mine didn't have one and I thought it was a little odd and just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything (I tend to be kind of picky about my Cher stuff).

My Suspect DVD didn't have a paper or booklet either. I found my DVD at Wal Mart for $5.50. I thought that was even more odd than it not having a paper or booklet. (Although you would think it would at least have an add sheet for other Tri Star releases). Susan

Susan, same here!!! My mom was looking through the HUGE DVD bins at Wal-Mart and happened to come across it so she got it for me. When she brought it home and gave it to me I was so excited but I noticed that someone had cut the side of it open so we brought it back to see if I could exchange it for another... it was like looking through a needle in a haystack for another one, and when I was about to give up and go back to tell the Service Desk that I would just be happy with the one with the cut, I looked down and saw Cher's face looking up at me. Lol. So, I was a little suspicous of why it was only $5.50 and thought it was kind of strange that there wasn't even an advertisement paper with it... Julie

Lol Jan! Well, I wouldn't say you are the only one that likes the 2nd front & back better... I like the 1st one because I think it's unique, but to look at it at first glance it is really kind of plain and dull I think, and the 2nd one just seems less cheesy (ok, now I know I'll get shot down for saying that, lol, but that's just what I think...) Julie P.S. It's nice to see you posting again, Jan!
