I found an article in my local newspaper yesterday about Cyndi Lauper, who performs this week and the PNC Bank Arts Center here in NJ, but throughout the article there were a few references to Cher, so I thought I'd share them with you (please don't shoot me for one or two of the comments made by the writer - I'm just the messenger!). I know a lot of you are Cyndi fans (me, too), and this guy generally seemed to like her music and career. I'm not too sure, though, if he's a Cher fan, he kinda walks the line on that one. Anyway, here goes:
The article opens with this, "There was a time that Cyndi Lauper challenged Madonna for the title of pop queen. But in the past decade, her reign seemed like a distant memory." (It gets better after this). The article continues, saying how her concert appearances have been "generally confined to opening slots for Tina Turner and Cher."
It continues describing her "At Last" album and how widely received it's been. The bulk of the rest of the article describes the tracks on the album, along with some of her comments, and then moves toward her personal life and how she spends a lot of time going to her son's hockey games; "These days, she's looking to star in a Broadway show - she won't get more specific than that - so she can pursue her career without leaving New York. Her son is a budding ice hockey player, and she's got games and practices to attend."
"Then again, Lauper has shown a little feistiness goes a long way - at least when it comes to the music biz. She credits some of her current success to the lessons she learned touring with Cher in the past few years."
"She pushed me...She was a real fan of mine," Lauper says. "Sisterhood is a powerful thing."
"But those who saw the Cher-Cyndi show might argue that Lauper deserved bigger billing. As much as you can admire Cher's remarkably preserved physique - and her own outrageous sense of attire - Lauper is, by far, the better singer."
"For her part, Lauper sees the pairing more as a 'one-two' punch."
"I kicked their butt one way, she kicked it another," she says."
I wish I could reproduce the entire article for you, or at least give you a link, but I'm not sure if this newpaper makes its editions available online. I'll look later tonight and see what I can dig up.

I see what you mean about the writer, sounds like he is a big Cyndi fan that was mad that Cyndi was an opening act instead of a headliner. I think Cyndi appreciated touring with Cher and it helped to bring Cyndi to the forefront again where she belongs.

I believe what you said there Dorothy.. Well early this morning around 3am couldn't sleep as usual, turned on the Public channel and there was Cyndi singing.. It was alot of songs from At Last.. It was sort of different than the Towne Hall DVD.. She really looked stunning.. It was a very good show, she had so much energy.. She did Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and she went down in the audience, everyone was dancing around, you could see all the empty seats, she danced with an elderly woman, it was very cute.. Then they formed a conga line and did that.. It was very neat.. That's a concert I would love to see.. The show was called Soundstage, apparently they have alot of singers on this show and also have a dvd for sale of past performances.. www.pbs.org was the address I saw on the TV.. Lisa

Cyndi is a headliner in my book. Always will be. Tonite's show was utterly fantastic. She performed for two hours at Mohegan, we were up front in the THIRD ROW!!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!! Made a little poster that read "CYNDI KICKS A$$" and she came down the stairs, loved the sign, and put her arm around me. She was ALL OVER the audience, running around, at one point she laid down in the person's lap who was on the side of me and she was singing and looking up at me. She has so much energy, and she talked a lot. She was barefoot most of the time! Cyndi really rocks, this was my 6th time seeing her and I'd go again. Her concerts are always so much fun! She didn't sing "True Colors", though. I was waiting to see that "bejeweled" pride flag. Alexandria and I wore pink & black (pink is the new black) We matched so well people complimented us!!! We got there early, had dinner and walked around, then back to the parking garage and - TAILGATE PARTY!!!! Cuz "GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN". ;D Apparently Alexandria had TOO much fun, cuz she hurled her dinner in the garage. Then back to the merchandise table and the show started at 9pm. We were up dancing and screaming most of the show. Cyndi at one point even came down and made anyone sitting on their butts get UP!!! LOL The BEST PART of all was when she returned for her encore. She did three songs, last one being our "theme song" for this summer, and Alexandria and I got up on stage and danced with Cyndi until the end of the show. There was about a dozen people on stage. We got high praises for our dancing from some people!!! A great nite, and now Alexandria is falling asleep, but she'll do a post when she gets up tomorrow. So glad we were able to see this show, wish Cyndi was still touring with Cher, but now she has to do her own thing, and she certainly does it exceptionally well. oh, my gosh, Yvette! As I am reading this I can just imagine you two in matching black and pink outfits (yes, it is everywhere this summer!) and dancing on the stage! LMAF, I told Matt i did not doubt that you two were up there dancing your a**es off!!! Too bad Alex had a little too much fun at the beginning, hope she was ok for the concert. Matt, Pat, and myself are going to see Cyndi August 22nd. We are 4th row aisle and I can not wait. We have heard nothing but wonderful things about her show!!! Maybe I will borrow your sign?...Matt said that he is going to have his own sign that said "sit here, reserved for Cyndi" pointing to HIS LAP! Can't believe that she did not do "True colors". I just love that song with her flag! I too, def think that she is an opening act all her own! (And of course, Matt does!). Wish she was touring with Cher, that was great, two headliners for the price of one! Matt was happy and I was happy! Anyway, can't wait, Maybe she will sit in Pat's lap, he wouldn't know what to think!! DEE

HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!! Whoooo feels weird to be typing on this thing... haha haven't had a computer in about a month! Im going crazy not talking to my Cher friends!!!!!!! I am all moved in, I live about 5 minutes north of Boston (DNC killed me LOL)... in this adorable apartment with my sister... and of course, our computer is broken!! so someone is looking at it now, and hopefully we can get it fixed sometime within the next couple of weeks! I havent got a chance to read everyones post, or catch up on how everyone is doing, but Yvette keeps updating me over the phone... Pam- I heard you went to see Cher!! I hope you had a fantastic time, and I want to send a big hug your way!!! You are in my thoughts and prayers daily... Cher is approaching.. in 21 days.. (who's counting?).. and then 23 days -again in Providence! ..I cant make it come faster, but at the same time, I dont want it to come because then it will end just as fast.. but last night, I saw an AWESOMEEEEEE SHOW, ..CYNDI LAUPER!!!!!!!!!! Yvette already said pretty much how it was, but I cant even explain how awesome she was!! She is one ball of spunk!!! The way she comes out into the crowd and just tries to get everyone off there feet, is hilarious!!! WHO CAN SAY THEY GOT ON STAGE!! LMAO... Whenever they started singing "GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN", and she was telling people to come on stage, I almost died....Yvette and I were the two cuties at the end, that matched!!!!!!! hahaha.. I guess this is the summer of "Girls just want to have fun"... sometimes you need to watch it though because if you drink too much at once, your dinner could "reappear" right before your eyes!! LOL.. Now Foxwoods parking garage has a memory of me and what I ate!! Awww!!!! MMMEEEEMMORRRIESSSS!! Cyndi talked a lot, (love her accent), and told a lot of stories and a lot of jokes... It felt like a very intimate performance. Foxwoods is very small, a lot of high rollers, so Yvette and I were one of a few that were up dancing, and really freaking out over her... CYNDI ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!1 Allright, well Now Yvette is the one sleeping (that's a shocker!), and I have to go wake her up to say goodbye. I wish I could stay here in RI and carry on this part-ay, but I have to head to work =( I dont know when I'll be getting a computer. I am starting to go through MOA withdrawls as well.... Bert- I heard about your monkey!!!!!!!! We have a new addition to our NYC crew!! Thats it.. we HAVE to all go back SOON now so we can give Allie a tour!!!!!! ..why didn't you name the monkey MOA?? ..maybe because there is only one MOA?? Yeah- that's it. =) I hope everyone else is doing well, and I hope everyone takes CHER!! =)

Yes! Cyndi rocked PNC Bank the other night as well. Sorry Yvette and Alexandria she did perform True Colors and gave a touching story about her freind that was dying and wanted her to write a song for him and she did not know True Colors was the song he wanted her to write. Everyone cheered at that opening story. It's amazing how you think you've seen the DVD and think you have seen the show already but live is ten times better!! Saw Gabrielle and her mother(sorry not sure of her name), wonder if Gab took photos because Cyndi looked real nice and Taylor Dayne was great as well. Great voice live and wished she was a headliner wanted her out on stage more than the 40 minutes she played. Cyndi's voice is so powerful live just amazing, reminds me alot of when I see Donna Summer live. She's another one that doesn't get the acclaim she deserves, both have phenomenol voices. Well if i'm up to driving for two hours will try and make it to Mohegan to see Cher. With any luck this back surgery won't be that bad for me.
Talk soon, Frank

I saw Cyndi at PNC the other night, too and she was awesome. I loved when Cyndi and Taylor Dayne dueted on Time after Time. Also, when Cyndi, Taylor Dayne and Jennifer Marks all sang "Girls Want to Have Fun" together, it was awesome!!!
