Jan just called me on her lunch break and she asked me to post for her and ask you guys your opinion on buying the Stuck On You DVD in the wide screen version vs the full screen version? The wide screen version was much more in cost than the full version, but she wanted the best one. She thinks the black at the top and the bottom of the screen will anoy her, but she asked what she should get and I said probably the wide screen version, which is the more expensive one.
Don`t they consider that equal to what is often called Letter box format for when they show a film on TV? I used to dislike that black on top and bottom myself until I saw Roger Ebert explain (and show once, why he was for Letter box format. He showed an old Doris Day/Rock Hudson movie in both formats I had seen many times on TV. He showed how the Letter box format was the way the director intended for the movie to be seen, but if they made it full screen to fit the TV screen, then sometimes people or things that were also ment to be in the scene, had to be cut out to fit. This was evident in the Doris Day/Rock Hudson movie he showed because in a scene they showed how they were on a party line with a 3rd person and you could hear her but you couldn`t see her in the full screen version but you could in the Letter box format.
I don`t know what they`d need to cut out, if anything, for Stuck On You, but I hope I told Jan right. Get the wide screen version. What do you guys think?
Pam

I would go for the wide screen/ letter box. It took me a little while to get used to the black at the top and the bottom, but now I don't even notice it. After comparing a few shots in different movies I realized just how much I was missing by having it formatted to fit the TV Screen. Susan:)

I think it's really just a matter of personal preference, but I do agree with Susan... At first, I didn't really dig the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, but now I don't really even notice it... For STUCK ON YOU, I think I will definitely get the "wide screen" (letterbox) version, so Pam I think you gave Jan the right advice...

Thanks Susan & Dann, that`s nice to know. Jan will be glad I steered her in the right direction. At least with Cher DVD`s I`m sure she wouldn`t want to miss anything trimmed off.

Just picked up my copy and got... widescreen! Didn't even think about it; my Dad's a weird one and always insists that we get things in widescreen. The blocks on the top and bottom aren't even noticeable after a while, so it's alright.

Haven't watched it start-to-finish yet but everyone make sure to check Cher out in the deleted scenes and the blooper reel! Very cute in both. ^^ Anyone know if she's in any of the other special features? Curse my short attention span... But I've seen the Cher deleted scene maybe four times now...? It's great. ^^

In PA Wal-Mart had both versions for the same price (19.88). I bought the wide screen but haven't watched it yet. Jan buying both versions, there's something I never would have thought of Susan:)

I went to Target, saw both wide and full screen versions on sale for $19.99. Right there I thought "I'M SOOO CONFUSED!!!!" I SAW RED - and called him over (those Target employees are easy to spot - just look for red shirts!) He explained the difference to me, said to get the widescreen version only if I had a widescreen TV. He said "widescreen" doesn't refer to the SIZE of the TV. I told him I had a 21" that was almost 10 years old. He said to buy the fullscreen version, that I WOULDN'T have the black bars on the top & bottom. He said they don't sell any widescreen tv's at Target. So I got the fullscreen version. When I began to type this post, I started the movie and there were the black bars on the top and bottom!!! And now it's the restaurant scene and the black bars are GONE !!!!! I'M STILL SOOOO CONFUSED!!!!!! Jan, you got both - you'll have to tell us the difference!!! I have this love/hate relationship with electronics anyway........ Yvette

A lot of times you will see black bars at the beginning of a film (even if it isn't a widescreen edition) because otherwise the opening credits would be cut off at either end. Susan:)

....."I sound like Hannibal Lector!!!! I'm boozing it up with CHERRRRRRR....!!!" That was hilarious.
I got the widescreen, because that's the only one they had. I loved all the extras. I totally missed seeing Cher working out in a Cher t-shirt at the movie theater!!!! Now, the question is....where do we get a t-shirt like that?

For you guys that bought the Wide Screen version (and this shows you how little I have actually used my DVD player) do you know you can switch to the full screen mode by hitting the "s.fit" button? I knew this a long time ago, but I didn't think about it until today when I popped in the SOY DVD . Susan:)

LOL, Dee..... that's really cute. I went to Wal-Mart earlier today and was going to buy the Widescreen verison (after reading this post, I knew I had to go with widescreen), but my mom was with me and bought a few things so she told me to throw it in with her stuff, so I didn't even have to pay for it. Lol...here it is Mother's Day and she's buying for me. That doesn't seem right.... Susan, the two formats at my Maine Wal-Mart were both $19.88, too. :-) Julie
