Lisa suggested I post this here... I am planning a trip with a couple of friends to NY in April. Ideally we would like to spend up to 8 nights in NY, but we have no idea what to do about the motel/hotel situation. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips of where to stay, at a reasonable price and half-way decent part of NY? We have agreed that we can all stay in the same room, which would make it cheaper for all of us. Thanks, Julie

Wow, thanks a bunch Lisa! Love ya and appreciate you looking that up for me. I did the math, and it wouldn't be all that bad if my friends and I end up sharing a room! $40*5nights=$200 $200forhotel+$98roundtrip bus=$298 The only problem I am havig is finding any rooms available during April. I am looking for anywhere from April 15-23. I ran a bunch of searches for that hotel and can't come up with any rooms. But maybe if I called them they would have something.

Be aware that the hotel tax in NYC is high, so you want to be prepared for that. Call the hotel to find out the current rate and if you book online see if they include it in the online price. The Milford Plaza while not the fanciest hotel is in the heart of the theatre district, and unless you are talking Middle of the night late, is in a relativley safe area. As for other savings, eating breakfast at a Sbarro's can save money. They have reasonable prices and a decent selection. Keep us posted on what you decide. Have fun! Susan

Thanks for all the info, Susan. Yes, I noticed that the tax on hotels in NY is quite pricey...but that's ok. To me it's worth it to have fun! I will do as you suggested and give them a call to find out more about whether the tax is figured in for the online rates, etc. When my friends get back from TN tomorrow (they went for down for a few days to visit a college), I will discuss the details with them and I will be sure to let you know what we decide on! If we can't get a room at the Milford, do you know of any other places around that would be relatively decent? Julie

Hey Julie... I stayed at the Milford in 8th grade when we took a week long "field trip" to NYC. I remember it being a decent place to stay if that helps. I stayed overnight once at a hostel that was clean and comfy enough and in a safe area - and the price was great. But I don't know how that would be to stay in for 8 days/nights. There was a shared bathroom...not sure how that would be. But if you're interested I can find the info for you.

Thanks Megen... sure, if it wouldn't be too much trouble I'd love any info you can come up with. I don't think we will necessarily stay for 8 nights...I think maybe that idea was a little silly. But we will defintitely base how many nights we spend in NY by determining how much money we want to spend out, etc.
