Did anyone watch SNL last weekend? The musical guest was Ashley Simpson, and she had a "Milli Vanilli moment"... When she came out to perform her second song, the vocal track for the first song she performed started to play! It was so funny... it's like, "you're BUSTED -- you lip synced the first song!!" LOL!! She didn't know what to do, so she started doing this country ho-down dance for like 5 seconds, and then she left the stage... Her band members stood strong though, and they played for about 30 seconds before NBC broke away to a commercial...
At the end of the show, she apologized and said that she didn't know what to do, so that's why she did the country ho-down dance... oh, and she put all of the blame on her band!! She said, "my band started to play the wrong song" or something like that, which was a total lie...

I saw it, it wasnt her fault, and people make mistakes, and what singer doesnt lipsync nowadays? there are a number of tv appearances where Cher lipsyncs there's nothing wrong with it, it just looks wierd ^_^

I don't particularly like Ashley, or her older sister for that matter, but you're right - people do make mistakes and, yes, Cher has lipsynced tv performances too.
But I think with the title "Saturday Night LIVE" people expect things to be live. I don't know the facts here though - have other performers lipsynced on SNL before? I know when Cher was on in the 80s, she def. sang live.
Also, Ashley Simpson is young and starting out (right? again I only kind of know the facts here) So this might be something that will be extremely hard for her to live down and get over in terms of credibility.

My friend Grace went to the taping..I just don't care for either of them either..although Jessica can def sing better than Britney that's for sure..If Britney did not have the looks she did...she'd be nowhere..the girl just can't sing..Personally I think christina sings better than all of em as far as the YOUNG singer market goes! no doubt..What does HOT hunk Nick see in Jessica? LOL

I was reading an article in The Washington Post about this Ashlee Simpson thing - and I saw her on ET tonight while I was waiting for the part about the new S&C DVD.
Basically the problem is what I thought - SNL has always talked about how their programing is LIVE and their musical acts perform LIVE. This whole flub of Ashlee's makes SNL look bad.
Also, I think she's handling it in a very immature way. Instead of owning up to the mistake and basically saying, "ok, yeah - I lip synced the first song - I don't usually do that - I'm sorry" - something I know Cher would do - she's changing her story every two minutes.
First she tried to put it off on the band. Now she's saying that she doesn't lip sync - but she had acid reflux and was having trouble singing (or something) - and the drummer hit the wrong button.
Ok so you don't lipsync or do you? It's obvious from what I've read that she most definitely lip synced the first song. And to use acid reflux as an excuse? Come on now! Just own up to the mistake.
I also read that in order to help themselves and Ashlee out, they fixed the show before it aired on the west coast. They took out her singing in the part where the wrong track was playing - so now it really does look like the band messed up and started with the wrong song.
Did Ashlee ever "sing" her second song on SNL?

Ashlee also suffers from severe Acid Reflux, which as most know does a number on your throat and vocal chords etc.. and she said that it was particulary bad that day, but hey, it happened and I feel bad for SNL and her, how embarrasing for both parties

I have gone to several tapings here in NY..one of which when Cher was on yrs back:) that rocked..and was fortunate once to see Madonna:) ..others too but those really stood out..I really miss the OLD SNL days man!!!!!! I dunno the new ones just ain't as good..no way..not bad..but just not like the o'l Gilda Radner/Eddie Murphy days u know? Some of the show is often PRE taped and most of it is live..they have some pre rehearsals earlier and then the live taping..

I agree Jan - Gilda Radner and Dana Carvey are two of my favorite SNL members. The classics are the best.

I agree... classic SNL episodes are the best, but even then, they had good seasons and bad seasons, ya know? So far, this season isn't that good... and I miss Jimmy Fallon...
As far as the whole Ashley Simpson lipsyncing thing, I just wish that she would pick an excuse, and stick with it... I can totally understand that if she did have a bad case of acid reflux that day, then maybe SNL said, "okay, we'll let you lipsync" or whatever... But then what's with all this "it was my band's fault", or "my drummer pushed the wrong button", or whatever... it doesn't make sense. It's like she has one excuse to explain why she did lipsync, and another excuse defending why she didn't lipsync...
But, whatever... over the years, very few artists have lipsynced on "Saturday Night Live"... I believe until recently, you HAD to sing live if you wanted to perform, but I guess they decided to change that "rule" because I think that JLo and Britney both lipsynced too... or at least part of their vocals were...
On the other hand, shows like "American Bandstand" and "Solid Gold" were always lipsynced... in fact, "American Bandstand" had a "rule" that you HAD to lipsync... and I grew up loving both those shows, so lipsyncing doesn't bother me at all...
I just thought that what happened to Ashley was pretty hilarious, but I'm sure the reason I thought that is because I'm not a fan of hers... No disrepect to any Ashley fans, but I'm just not into her music... or her sister's... just not my cup of tea is all, and I'm sure that if this whole thing had happened to someone I liked, I probably wouldn't think it was so funny...
Now if only SNL would get "funny" again...
