Did anyone watch the first episode of "Jack & Bobby" last night (Sun., 9/12/04)? WHAT A GREAT SHOW!!!! It airs on Sunday nights on the WB, and I cannot recommend this show more... It was so good, and I cannot wait until next week's episode.
The premise of the show is about a single mom (played by Christine Lahti) raising two sons -- Jack and Bobby. I'm not sure exactly how old the boys are, but Jack is probably in 11th or 12th grade, and Bobby is in 8th grade... In the future (I think in the year 2040), one of the sons ends up being the President... so basically, the show features clips from the future of people (his vice-president, his campaign manager, his wife, etc.) talking about the adult, and then the present-day scenes show his life as a young man.
Here's a description of the show from the WB website:
JACK & BOBBY
What if you could watch the next great American President grow up? Jack (Matt Long) and Bobby (Logan Lerman) McCallister are two bright young brothers growing up in Hart, Missouri, under the watchful eye of their eccentric single mother Grace (Christine Lahti), a college professor whose strong personality helps shape both of these young men's lives and secure one a place in the history books -- as President of the United States. Grace and Jack's temperamental mother/son relationship takes a dangerous toll on Bobby as he gets caught in their rival forces, prompting a major change in the McCallister household. The arrival of a new college president, Peter Benedict (John Slattery), and his beautiful daughter, Courtney (Jessica Pare), makes an impression on the McCallisters that lasts a lifetime.
****************
It was a really, really good show, and I hope that it does well in the ratings and doesn't get cancelled right away... Christine Lahti is really great in the show, and so are both of the actors who play Jack and Bobby... It is definitely one of the best written and acted shows that I have seen in a long time.
The WB will be showing an "encore" performance of the first episode on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 9:00 p.m. (8:00 central).
